The classic look of black and white suits Lyon France. For Brashley Photography’s Mid-week Monochrome.

The Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourviere, sitting atop it’s hill glowing in cream and gold is visible throughout the city. The basilica has an interesting history that you can read here: Lyon’s Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourviere.

Silk Workshop

Lyon has a number of interesting little streets and passageways with many interesting little shops to explore. This little silk workshop, Silk Saint George, is located in the old town.

Notes

Photographed with my Sony RX10iv in color, then processed using Raw Therapee, Topaz Sharpen AI and the GIMP. Both the interior of the basilica and the workshop were rather dark and the photos had quite a bit of noise. I used Topaz Sharpen AI to clean up the noise from the high ISO interior shots. Converted to black and white using the GIMP’s built-in tools. Primarily I used the color to gray tool, in some cases blended with a desaturated version of the image. This post: Black and white digital photo processing using the GIMP, has details about using those tools.
