Road through the Gap of Dunloe

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day I’ve been wallowing in picture from our last trip to Ireland, almost ten years ago! (Surely it’s time to go back?) I experimented with a couple of pictures from the Gap of Dunloe in black and white using the GIMP’s built-in desaturate tools. For these I used both the Color to Gray and the Desaturate. Then combined the two using blend modes and layer masking.

For Brashley Photography’s Mid-week Monochrome.

If you are interested in experimenting with black and white using the GIMP, my post Black and white digital photo processing using the GIMP has detailed discussion about the GIMP’s built-in tools for black and white and how to use them. I also did a short YouTube video about the methods available in the desaturate tool.
